DISK FRAGMENTATION
All versions of Windows come with a disk defragmenter. But what exactly is fragmentation? As you use your computer daily files get written and deleted constantly from the disk, either by yourself or by the operating system creating and removing temporary files. This process leave the disk in no sort of order and when new file are written to the disk they start to get written in the gaps on the disk. The fact that single files are written in different parts of the disk means that the disk has to go round the disk reading different parts instead of just streaming the data straight off the disk. This is called Fragmentation. The defrag program within windows sorts out the files into order again to make the disk perform faster.

Jenis partition
1. Primary Partition
Ialah tempat peyimpanan system Operasi .
2. Extended Partition
Merupakan pembahagi antara primary partition dan logical partition.
3. Logical Partition
Extended Partition yang dan digunakan sebagai tempat penyimpanan data.
Jenis partition
Windows 95 = FAT 16
Windowa 97 & 98 atau 98SE = FAT16 & FAT32
Windows 2000 & XP = FAT32 & NTFS5
Linux = Ext2 atau Ext3
syarat jenis partition
FAT16 = harddisk 2 GB
FAT32 = harddisk 850 MB ke atas.
NTFS = harddisk di atas 1 TeraByte
FAT 12
FAT12 digunakan dalam sistem operasi DOS pada PC IBM (1981). . memori maksima yang format oleh FAT 12 adalah 4.086 Cluster, sehingga FAT sesuai dengan harddisk memori kecil
FAT 16
FAT 16 digunakan pada sistem operasi Windows 95 versi (1990). Memori maksima yang adalah 65.526 cluster. Saiz harddisk 16 MB-2.048 GB.
FAT 32
FAT 32 menggunakan 28 bit cluster
NTFS ( New Technology File System)
NTFS digunakan pada windows NT dan keturunannya.
HPFS (High Performance File System)
HPFS digunakan pada OS/2 ( IBM). HPFS mampu membaca data lebih cepat dibandingkan sistem FAT.
